Frequently asked questions

Is the Foundation part of the CNMI government?

No. The Marianas Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. While we work to benefit CNMI communities, we operate separately from any government entity and maintain our independence through our own governance structure and policies.

How do you ensure all islands benefit?

Our mission explicitly includes Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. We are committed to equitable consideration of needs across all CNMI communities. Our board reviews applications and initiatives with geographic balance in mind, and we report publicly on the distribution of our support.

How can I apply for funding?

We are currently developing our grant application process and criteria. Once finalized, application guidelines will be posted on this website and shared with local organizations. Contact us or subscribe to updates to be notified when applications open.

Where can I see reports and documents?

Governing documents, financial reports, and program summaries are published on our Transparency page. As a newly established foundation, we post materials as they are adopted and filings as they become available.

What are $MARI community-benefit funds?

The Marianas Initiative channels designated community-benefit resources, including $MARI community-benefit funds, into public-benefit grants, micro-loans, and programs. The Foundation's role is stewardship: custody, criteria-based review, disbursement, and public reporting.

Are donations tax-deductible?

The Marianas Foundation is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donors should consult a qualified tax advisor regarding deductibility of a specific gift. Formal IRS determination letters and Form 990 filings will be posted on the Transparency page as they are issued.
